Spring 2017 Retreat

A Creative Contemplative Retreat

Threshold Times:

Pilgrimages Amid Inner and Outer Change

 March 17-19, 2017

Chincoteague Island on Virginia’s Eastern Shore

Whatever our age, each of us is on a pilgrimage filled with our own crossroads and thresholds… calls to new life and questions about what needs to be put down.   A “threshold” may be change that has happened… or something you are amidst… or something that is emerging but not yet clear.  Some are chosen; others come about because of a change in circumstances. Whatever the origin, thresholds bring change and invitation, wonder and sometimes worry.  But always they ask for engagement: Deep listening, patient exploration, and trust.

A contemplative retreat—time spent in a beautiful place in good company with fellow seekers—is the perfect place to gently reflect on life and your hopes and dreams and questions for this unfolding year.  The retreat will provide various sessions and creative activities designed to help you articulate your stirrings to yourself. You will come away refreshed, and with a variety of tools and practices to take home.  No prior retreat experience is necessary.

“We live our lives poised between action and contemplation, in that silent space of longing, expectation and hope.”                  –  Friends of Silence newsletter

About the Retreat: Check in Friday afternoon and enjoy a leisurely beach walk or a visit to Chincoteague’s nearby downtown.  Following dinner (on your own at nearby restaurants), we’ll meet at 7:00 to settle into our cozy meeting sot and begin our journey together.  On Saturday, enjoy presentations, quiet times, and opportunities to share.  Choose from included events such as art projects, journaling, dream workshops, guided meditation and a social hour.  Sunday morning features stretching with Robert, a wrap-up session and time for one last walk on the beach.  We’ll close before noon to allow time to explore nearby Assateague and for a leisurely return home, renewed and refreshed.  Lodging is at the beautiful Island Motor Inn, with a wonderful waterfront meeting room, waterfront guest rooms, a contemplative garden, gym, indoor pool and hot tub.
